Westpac Stadium has today been announced as the host of two Cricket internationals this summer, with the BLACKCAPS playing a T20 match against Pakistan on Friday 22 January and an ODI against Australia on Saturday 6 February, part of the highly anticipated Chappell-Hadlee series.
The announcement was made by New Zealand Cricket, who released the full schedule for the 2016 International Series – comprising inbound tours from Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Australia.
There is more good news for Wellington, as the Basin Reserve will host an ODI against Pakistan on Monday 25 January (Wellington Anniversary Day) and a Test match against Australia beginning on Friday 18 February.
Westpac Stadium CEO Shane Harmon is excited by the schedule. “After the huge success of Cricket World Cup, we’re looking forward to welcoming bumper crowds back to Westpac Stadium to support the BLACKCAPS this summer against Pakistan in T20 and Australia in a rematch of the Cricket World Cup final.
“We’re expecting record attendances for our blockbuster summer featuring Elton John, AC/DC, the Sevens, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, The Southern Bowl, the Wellington Phoenix and of course the BLACKCAPS” added Harmon.
Over the course of the home summer the BLACKCAPS will play four Test matches, 11 ODIs and five T20s at nine different venues.
