Relay for Life 2019 is a sell out!

The New Zealand Cancer Society is please to announce that the annual Wellington Relay for Life Event has sold out.

The much-loved event will be held this year for the first time at Westpac Stadium on the weekend of 6-7 April. This year’s event will see 90 teams of 4,000 individuals participate from all across the Wellington region representing a diverse range of groups including families, service and community organisations, corporate groups, local businesses, schools and sporting clubs.

Relay For Life is an inspirational fun event for everyone of all ages and fitness levels, during which we Celebrate with survivors, Remember loved ones lost to cancer and come together as a community to Fight Back against cancer.

"A big thank you to the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust who are sponsoring the event by providing the venue essentially free of charge to the Cancer Society", said Michael Smith, CEO Cancer Society Wellington Division.

The move from Frank Kitts Park to the Stadium will allow us to save significant costs, with less need to hire things like equipment, portaloos and marquees. Frank Kitts Park has been great but there is no room to grow.  The bigger venue will allow us to accommodate the expected growth in teams and participants. The Stadium also has many other advantages including improved event security and fantastic proximity to trains, buses, and parking facilities.

Westpac Stadium is an iconic venue and I’m sure it will provide a unique Relay for Life experience for participants. The support of the Wellington community for this event is wonderful to see.”

Over $500,000 was raised in 2018, and funds from this year’s event will be used to support people coping with a cancer diagnosis, to fund cancer research and cancer risk reduction programmes.

Team marquee sites are provided for each registered team. Team members take turns relay-style walking/running around a track while enjoying a carnival atmosphere of music, entertainment, food stalls and fantastic community spirit.
